We Are All Immigrants

in South Boston

(awaiting installation)

Shown here are just a few of the tens of thousands of immigrants to Boston from all over the world. From shipbuilders, chefs, and newspaper editors to home care aides and entrepreneurs, they have shaped the city in myriad ways. Commonwealth Pier is among the piers where ships bearing immigrants—like the Canopic—once docked. Newcomers landed here until the 1960s. Then increasing numbers arrived at Logan Airport across the harbor. For centuries, immigrants have come to Boston, seeking the opportunity to better their lives.
